The African grant snails Archachatina species and Achatina species belong to the class Gastropoda; the largest class of Mollusks. The snail consists of two parts: the shell and soft part. The soft part consists of the head, foot and visceral mass but only the head and foot are edible.
 The rearing of snail called Heliculture is derived from the English   species of snail called Helix. The purposes of  Heliculture are;
i) To demonstrate that snail rearing is possible in an urban area.
ii) That it could provide a lucrative job for the people.
iii) To highlight the nutritional, medicinal and other uses of snail.
iv)Finally to encourage individuals or retirees wishing to have a goal at rearing snails either as a hobby or on commercial basis.
